Extended Producer Responsibility Scheme & Free Shipping.
'The never-ending increases in the costs we all face continue to be, well, never ending. In this instance, what is particularly pertinent to ourselves as a brewery is a little talked about but significant new Government scheme which comes into force now called the Extended Producer Responsibility scheme. The EPR, is a ‘Producer Pays Principle’ scheme which is essentially a tax on packaging to help cover the costs of the lifetime of the material. The costs are calculated by weight, and of course glass is heavier than aluminium cans. And it adds significantly to the costs of our bottles. This unfortunately runs concurrent to the new duty rate for bottles / cans which comes into effect in February.
In addition to the new and exciting taxes, some small increases elsewhere mean we need to put the prices up a little. We’ve chosen to absorb some of the impending cost rises, but some we have to pass on.
One way we are trying to make this fairer on you, our customers, is to introduce free shipping on orders over £65. For any further information regarding this please do not hesitate to reach out and contact us on shop@thekernelbrewery.com
In the meantime we shall continue to make great beer for you, and for ourselves.
