Rice Lagers, Celebration Brews and Where to Find Us This Summer

Hello and welcome to our latest newsletter!

This month we have a collaboration and a celebration beer to shout about as well as where you can find us pouring over the summer.

Four people sitting at a wooden bar in a brewery, smiling and clinking beer glasses. Beer taps are visible in the foreground, and the background shows a rustic industrial interior with hanging lights and wood paneling.

First up, the wonderful Bates and Miranda from Duration came down from Norfolk to help us brew.

We have known Bates since his time at BBNo, and thought it was time we made something together. We have enjoyed their light lagers in the past, and thought why not brew a Rice Lager (our first adjunct lager) for the later summer!

So what can you expect from a Kernel X Duration Rice Lager?

Well, a light straw colour with a dense white foam, we used Tettnanger hops late which gives a light lemon and grassy aroma.

Up front are delicate floral/jasmine flavours from the rice which quickly make way for a crispy dry finish, that has you coming back for another sip.

We have really been looking forward to packing this one, and we hop you like it as much as we do. One for in the sun!

Stay tuned later in the year when we head up to Norfolk to get involved on their brew kit! .

A woman in a green sweatshirt stands next to a large industrial machine, holding a long metal rod while spent malt fall into a green bin. The setting is a brewery with metal tanks and machinery in the background.

This is available on our Online Shop and at our Spa Road Venue from Wednesday 22nd July.

Next up, we brewed a beer with some of the team from The Rake to help them celebrate their 20th anniversary!! which falls on August 3rd.

Three people standing in front of a large brewing vat in a brewery setting.

Terry, the head brewer at Tap East and Isaac from The Rake Bar joined Issy to brew a Pale Ale.

Now we couldn't just call it Pale Ale - Rake but I think we came pretty close to honouring such a momentous birthday.

Pale Ale - Rakau, Amarillo, Krush, El Dorado 5%

So what can you expect from this Pale Ale?

The beer is on the richer end of pale gold. Aroma is a heady fruit
cocktail – mostly tropical, slightly dank, tending sweet.

This pale is a trans-pacific expression that we’ve not often captured
quite so vividly. Sitting as it does in a happy place that brings
together the most tropical/delicious facets of hops from the
pacific northwest of the USA and one from Nelson, NZ. Amarillo brings the west coast citrus.

El Dorado provides sweetness fullness, Krush has it’s own tropical goodness but here it also becomes the bridge across, linking so well with the Rakau’s orange / white grape characteristics. Then end result is one of pineapple, grape citrus with a floral halo – all nicely clear, with the base pale ale being particularly well defined, the length of flavour carrying the sweetness of the body nicely through to a snappy bright finish – clean, a touch of bitterness.

Our version of what we think tropical and juicy should be.

A man in a black t-shirt works inside a large metal vat in a brewery, with another man in a light pink t-shirt observing from the side. Large stainless steel fermentation tanks and industrial pipes fill the background.

You can buy this Pale Ale now from our Online Shop as well as at The Rake Bar on their birthday.
