A single 440ml can of Haynau's Retreat - Black Lager, 5%
This is a collab brewed with our Scottish based family, Newbarns Brewery. It’s our take on a 1930 London Black Lager. London is of course known historically for its dark porters and stouts, and Scotland is known for its lager(s). So when we came across this style, we knew exactly who we should brew it with.
This was a very unusual brew for us, and I imagine for most brewers today. A few hundred litres into the first runnings, we got the boil going and reduced this to a syrup. In the meantime the rest of the wort was being diverted from the lauter tun back into our mash mixer. After we’d reached a certain gravity, the remaining wort was then added back into the kettle and brought up to a boil.
You can expect to try the roastiest and fullest black lager you've ever had. It’s super clean, but carries the richness from the syrup through to the end result. It’s delicious.
